Tom Cochrane: Humanitarian Award Recipient Recounts Poignant Experiences In Africa

Noted Canadian singer-songwriter Tom Cochrane has been a lot of places and seen a lot of things, but one of his most poignant experiences occurred when he spent two-and-a-half weeks traveling through Africa on behalf of World Vision in 1989 that included a stop in a Mozambique village.

“We met a girl named Louisa who had a big growth on her neck, and a doctor was trying to get her some help so she could be operated on,” the iconic musician, who receives the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award at the JUNO Awards in Regina on April 21, told Samaritanmag.

Toy Lending Libraries A Widespread Concept

If you’re a parent who is strapped by a limited income but still wishes you could spoil your children with various toys, an alternative solution might be closer than you think. Most family and community centres have toy libraries, where parents can sign out toys for their children for a couple of weeks at a time, then return them for others to use.
