VAPOR Feat. Marc Martel "No More Hurting People" 2013

Marc Martel, the former singer for Canadian rock band Downhere who landed on Ellen after his Queen Extravaganza audition tape went viral (he got the gig, btw) co-wrote “No More Hurting People” with Mark Heimermann in honour of the victims and survivors of the Boston bombings April 15. The title, of course, are those beautiful words 8-year-old Martin Richard — who was killed in the attack — had written on a poster-board sign last year after the murder of Trayvon Martin. The song, released under the name Vapor Feat. Marc Martel, is free to download with a “pay what you can” option to donate towards the One Fund Boston set up for those most affected by the bombings. “This anthem's purpose is to counter the effects of evil and hatred,” it reads on the website. STEVIE NICKS "Soldier's Angel" 2011

Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks has visited many injured military personnel over the years at Walter Reed Hospital and Bethesda Naval Hospital. She wrote a poem after her second visit to Walter Reed and gave it out to the soldiers and their families. “I always told them one day it would be a song,” Nicks said. In 2009, an accident in Iraq that killed seven English soldiers “caused a four-page journal entry, where I pulled the chorus,” she explained. Nicks then asked Fleetwood Mac co-founder Lindsay Buckingham to play guitar and sing backup on the heartfelt song she titled “Soldier’s Angel” for her 2011 solo album, In Your Dreams. “I am a soldier in their army/They are the soldiers of my heart/I try to make them smile again/Thought it tears me apart/Their bravery leaves me spellbound/I try to be a small part /Of bringing them back again,” she sings.
