This week is the perfect time for music supporters to donate their Aeroplan miles, those reward miles travelers earn from Air Canada and partner airlines, to a good cause.
The period of Nov. 23-29 has been declared MusiCounts Aeroplan Match Week, where any Aeroplan miles donations to MusiCounts will earn triple their worth thanks to Aeroplan and TD Bank Group each offering to match any donation's value. The goal is to reach 1.5 million miles.
MusiCounts, Canada's music education charity associated with The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), has a mission to "ensure that children in Canada, regardless of socio-economic circumstances and cultural background, have access to music programs through their schools and communities." Some of their initiatives include the Band Aid Program, which provides needed equipment and instruments to schools, MusiCounts TD Community Music Program, which provides instruments and equipment to community centres, after-school programs and other community non-profit organizations, and MusiCounts Teacher of the Year Award, an award that presents a $10,000 cheque to the school of one excellent music teacher each year.
MusiCounts uses donated Aeroplan miles to offset travel costs in order to visit more communities across Canada. These reward miles are also used to purchase items and build experiential travel packages to auction off at various fundraising events, helping to raise more funds and awareness for MusiCounts.
Since MusiCounts partnered up with Aeroplan's Beyond Miles charity pool in 2012 the musical education charity has received 2,181,808 donated miles.
