Father John Misty Releases Live Album To Benefit MusicCares COVID-19 Fund

If you didn’t pray to the altar of Father John Misty before the world went on lock down, you might be inclined to now. The on-key artist has made his first live album Off-Key In Hamburg available on Bandcamp with all proceeds going to the MusicCares COVID-19 Fund. And if there’s something the world needs more of during these unprecedented times, it’s music.

The 20-track album, listed for $10 (USD) "or more," was recorded live at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, on Aug. 8 last year, wth his band and the Neue Philahamonie Frankfurt.

As many know, COVID-19 has significantly impacted artists and the music industry as countries around the world shutter concert halls and music venues compliant to physical distancing rules. With the onslaught of streaming, many artists rely on revenue generated from live performances. The Recording Academy’s MusicCares COVID-19 Relief Fund provides assistance to artists who have been affected by the cancellation of music events.

The fund was announced on March 17, and was launched with a contribiton of $1 million (USD) eacg by the Recording Academy and MusiCares. All the Recording Academy chapters have also committed to fundraising locally.

MusiCares was established by the Recording Academy — the U.S. body which puts on the annual Grammy Awards — to help foster the health and well-being of the community by offering confidential, preventive, recovery, and emergency programs to address financial, medical and personal health issues.
