Iconic American heavy metal band Metallica is hosting a special concert on Nov. 3, to help raise funds for their All Within My Hands Foundation.

The Helping Hands Concert and Auction will be held at The Masonic in San Francisco, California, and will feature a rare acoustic performance by the band, as well as Cage the Elephant.

The All Within My Hands Foundation is a charitable organization created by the members of Metallica and their management. The organization is "dedicated to creating sustainable communities by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services." The foundation frequently supports food banks in cities where Metallica is touring.

Attendees of the show will also learn about the various charitable organizations that the band is supporting through the Foundation, as well as bid on a selection of auction items.

“As the WorldWired tour rolls on we have had the honor and pleasure of meeting dedicated people all over the world who focus their daily lives on helping others ... it’s been extremely humbling and very inspiring,” said the band in a collective statement. “We’re excited to share our passion with you, introduce you to some of the people we’ve worked with, and of course raise funds to assist with their incredible ongoing efforts in communities across the country and around the world.”

Metallica is comprised of original members James Hetfield (guitar/vocals) and drummer Lars Ulrich, as well as lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo. The group formed in Los Angeles in 1981, and has sold more than 110 million albums worldwide, and is also one of the biggest live draws on the concert circuit. At present, the band is in the midst of their ongoing WorldWired Tour, in support of Hardwired … To Self Destruct, which was released late 2016.

A limited number of floor and balcony tickets for the Nov. 3 show will be on sale through Ticketmaster Fans can also win a chance for VIP tickets, by making a donation here.

“I am grateful to be in a group that cares for all. Although sometimes I feel hopelessness, with the powerful love, gratitude and hope of the Metallica family, I strive to be a part of the solution,” said Hetfield on the All Within My Hands Foundation website.

“To me, the core mission statement of Metallica is to connect people together. There’s no better way to do that than to share in the good will and give back,” added Ulrich.

The purpose of the Foundation, according to the official website, is “to create sustainable communities by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger and other critical local services.”

Formed in February of 2017 by the band, the All Within My Hands Foundation had donated more than $750,000 USD ($968,960 CAD) to food banks around the world, in its first six months of operation and customarily donates $10,000 ($12,920 CAD) per tour stop. The band promises that “every penny from your donations will go directly to our charity partners.”

Thus far in 2018, through the auspices of the Foundation, Metallica and donors have supported local food banks within each community visited by the band on its European tour, as well as organizations like Feeding America, Stockholm City Mission, World Childhood Foundation and the Afghanistan National Institute of Music.
