The very first Lancer Evolution Final Edition, 1 of 1,600 produced, is up for auction on eBay to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in America. The Lancer Evolution is in its 10th year and final year and each of the 2015 vehicles carry a numbered plaque.

This first off the production line is red with black interior, 5-speed transmission paired with a turbocharged and intercooled DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder 2.0L engine, “making the Final Edition the most powerful mass-produced Evolution ever built with 303 horsepower,” says the press release. More specs are listed on the eBay auction page.

There has been 13 prequalified bids since Nov. 11, bringing the figure to $40,500 (US).  The winner must also pay for applicable sales taxes, licensing and vehicle delivery.

The auction concludes Nov. 21 at the 29th annual MS Dinner Auction — Mitsubishi Motors North America is the title sponsor — at Loews Coronado Bay Resort in Coronado, California with those in attendance also allowed to bid.

Mitsubishi Motors North America donated the limited-production collectible car to the National MS Society — Pacific South Coast Chapter.

“With the support of Mitsubishi Motors we are able to fund cutting-edge research, drive change through advocacy, facilitate professional education, collaborate with MS organizations around the world, and provide programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward,” said Richard Israel, president of the National MS Society, Pacific South Coast Chapter, in a statement.

Bidding is open to prequalified bidders only and a link is provided on the eBay page to get prequalified. “This extra step is to make sure all bids are legitimate and that bidders understand the need to pay promptly if they win,” it reads.  It also alerts bidders that they will later be bidding against a live audience in the room at the Nov. 21 dinner.

“Mitsubishi Motors has been involved with the National MS Society for more than 16 years, raising money through a variety of activities and event sponsorships,” Don Swearingen, executive vice president, MMNA,  said in a statement. “It was only fitting that this year, to enhance our title sponsorship of the event, we donate something that means so much to the brand. By expanding the auction nationally, we hope to increase our donation to a charity that is near and dear to the hearts of everyone at Mitsubishi.”

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system).  According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, in 2014 it “devoted $122.2 million (US) to connect more than one million individuals to the people, information and resources they needed” and “invested $50.2 million to support more than 380 new and ongoing research projects around the world.”
