The event, created by Heather Ostertag of the music funding foundation FACTOR and reaches out for support from the Toronto music industry, raises donations of bras, underwear, other unmentionables, and money for women in shelters.
This year’s recipient will be the Yorktown Shelter for Women. Held at the Hot House Café (35 Church Street) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., tickets are available at the door for $20 each or 10 pairs of new underwear. There will also be auction/raffle items and door prizes so bring lots of cash.
As Ostertag told Samaritanmag for a January feature story, “It’s a way of giving back to a community and celebrate the strength of these women who are leaving in the middle of the night with nothing but the clothes on their back. Shelters being so cash strapped that, in some shelters, they are actually handed used underwear and that is just disgusting and not acceptable,” says Ostertag, who was in an emotionally abusive relationship for 17 years.
Her efforts the past eight years — along with a dedicated “Schmooze Team” — have raised close to 10,000 pairs of panties, along with thousands of other items for various charities.
