Toronto’s Down With Webster has reached a point where the gold-selling band will start looking for a cause to put its name behind.  The seven-piece funky hip hop outfit has already done charity work for War Child Canada and appeared on Free The Children’s We Day event.

“The band has to all come to a consensus on something that we all feel strongly about and then at some point we definitely plan on paying it forward and using this for more than just playing concerts and music,” says bassist-keyboardist Tyler Armes, who grew up in a family that was heavily involved in charity.

“My aunt is on the board at Mount Sinai Hospital and we always go to the galas she speaks at and she’s one of the head boards of Mothers Against Drunk Driving [MADD] as well. My mom and my aunt’s brother was killed in a drunk driving accident when he was 13 up at our cottage.”

Down With Webster’s profile is definitely growing. The band — Armes, Bucky (vocals), Pat Gillett (vocals, guitar), Andrew “Marty” Martino (drums) and Diggy (DJ), Cam (vocals) and Kap (hype man) — is up for two Juno Awards this coming weekend, March 26 and 27, group of the year and pop album for 2009’s Time To Win Vol. 1.

“There’s a book called The End of Poverty [Economic Possibilities For Our Time by Jeffrey Sachs] that has the forwards by Bono in it,” says Armes. “It’s just really interesting to see what you can do from being in a band. You actually have so many kids and so many impressionable people that will follow your lead and trust your judgment. “
