Dine Alone Records and musician Dallas Green raised $175,000 for five organizations in support of the Black Lives Matter movement with an 11-day raffle. People were invited to donate $10 for each chance to win one of the 105 items donated to the raffle by friends of the Toronto label and the City and Colour/Alexisonfire frontman from June 25 to July 5. The winners’ names were drawn on July 10.

Among the items people could win were a Jerry Cantrell Signature Series Guitar signed by all of the members of Alice In Chains; a signed bundle of items from Blue Rodeo; a signed bundle of items from Dan Mangan;a Halifax Highlanders hockey jersey from the movie Goon signed by Jay Baruchel; an Art of Doubt jean jacket hand-painted by Metric’s Emily Haines; a Pink sweatshirt signed by Pink; a signed and personalized copy of Geddy Lee’s Big Beautiful Book of Bass; a signed Sum 41 poster; a harmonica signed by The Trews; and a Mitch Marner Toronto Maple Leafs jersey signed by Marner.

“We stand firmly behind the Black Lives Matter movement and want to contribute and raise funds for the cause,” said a message on the raffle website.

All of the contributions were split evenly and donated to: Black Lives Matter (Canada); Black Lives Matter (global); Nia Centre for the Arts; The Bail Project; and Black Women in Motion.

Black Lives Matter Canada is a platform upon which black communities across the country can work to dismantle all forms of anti-black racism, support black healing, affirm black existence and create freedom to self- determine.

It works to forge critical connections in solidarity with black communities, black-centric networks, solidarity movements and allies in order to dismantle all forms of state-sanctioned oppression, violence and brutality committed against African, Caribbean and black cisgender, queer, trans and disabled populations.

Black Lives Matter was founded in 2013 to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on black communities by the state and vigilantes. It works to combat and counter acts of violence, and create space for black imagination and innovation.

Nia Centre for the Arts is a Toronto-based charitable organization that supports, showcases and promotes an appreciation of arts from across the African diaspora. It creates spaces to support young people, as well as emerging and established artists to hone their artistic talents, prepare them for jobs in the creative sector, and enhance their capacity for entrepreneurship.

Nia Centre also creates opportunities for the community to experience creative works of established artists through festivals, exhibitions and community arts programs. To address the lack of safe and inclusive spaces for African-Canadian communities, it’s building Canada's first professional multi-disciplinary centre for African-Canadian art.

The Bail Project provides free bail assistance to low-income individuals who are legally presumed innocent, and whom a judge has deemed eligible for release before trial contingent on paying bail. It enables clients to return home to their families and communities while awaiting their court dates.

Black Women in Motion is a Toronto-based, youth-led organization that empowers and supports the advancement of black women and survivors of sexual violence. It works to create culturally relevant content, educational tools, healing spaces and economic opportunities for black women.
