Professional snowboarder Mark McMorris and cosmetics company Kiehl's have teamed up to help financially disadvantaged young Canadians participate in sports. The skin and hair product brand recently announced the Limited Edition Ultra Facial Cream, a special run version of their Ultra Facial Cream complete with an illustration co-designed by McMorris.
One hundred percent of the profits from the cream's sales will be donated to the McMorris Foundation and its mission of getting more young people into sports. The cream will sold in Canadian Kiehl's outlets starting in January with a goal to raise $20,000 towards the foundation. The 50ml containers of the facial cream will retail for $36.
Begun in 2012, the McMorris Foundation aims to create "a more affordable, accessible, and inclusive sport culture in Canada." The McMorris Foundation teams with partner organization Canadian Tire Jumpstart to use money raised to identify local families throughout Canada who need financial assistance to allow their children to participate in sports. Jumpstart grants are used to reduce costs of things like registrations, coaching fees, facility rentals, equipment costs and transportations costs.
Thus far, the McMorris Foundation has raised approximately $200,000 to assist more than 2,000 Canadian youths.
"Partnering with Kiehl's was a no-brainer. The McMorris Foundation was started with a focus on giving all kids the same opportunities my brother Craig and I had growing up. We want all kids to have a chance to learn the life lessons sport has to offer," said Mark McMorris, in a statement.
One of Canada's most highly decorated winter sport athletes, McMorris has won two Olympic bronze medals and 16 X-Games medals in various snowboard disciplines, including seven golds.
While the union of a snowboarder and cosmetics company may not make sense at first glance, supporting the McMorris Foundation fits naturally with the company's philanthropic goals, which include children's well-being, environmental issues and HIV research. According to Kiehl's, the company has raised over $2.5 million for children's causes worldwide since 2006.
"While maintaining Kiehl's longstanding mission of giving back to the community in support of children, we are honored to partner with the McMorris Foundation to help them raise awareness on such an important matter," added Alexandre Ratté, general manager, Kiehl's Canada. "Mark's career is the living proof on how sports can change a child's life. We are very pleased with this initiative."
